We are a 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit thrift store in Hamtramck, MI. After we pay expenses, all our profits from the store and online support the work we do in the community. We respond to urgent needs in Hamtramck on a case-by-case basis, so let us know if we can help. All our products are donated by people who believe in our mission, and we don’t do consignment. We currently don’t schedule pick-ups, but call us if you can’t deliver; sometimes, we make exceptions if it makes sense.

The idea for Joy Thrift came from Louise, our store manager, who was important in getting it started.

  • Store Hours: Tues-Sat, 10 am-6 pm

  • There is usually metered parking in front of our store. We recommend using the Sentry App, or if you plan to pay with quarters, ask an employee to ensure you did it correctly. The system works with cameras, not a person, and will send you a ticket if you drive away without doing it correctly. However, you can fix it if you are still parked. Again, please ask us as we would hate for your to receive a ticket. The other option is parking on the side streets. There are usually free spots on Caniff and Trowbridge.

  • You can drop off in-kind items anytime during store hours. We have a loading dock in the back of the store, or you can pull into the alley for a short time. If a truck is blocking the alley, we can help get them to move, or you can bring it through the front of the store. Please ring the doorbell or call 313-462-4173 and someone will open the door and help unload. If you need a tax receipt, please let us know.   • You can get involved with Joy Thrift by dropping off in-kind donations, giving a financial donation, volunteering, or organizing a collection drive.
